Die US-amerikanische Serie dreht sich um die schlagfertige Gerichtsmedizinerin Dr. Jordan Cavanaugh, die von ihrem Vater, einem Ex-Polizisten, gelernt hat, sich in Opfer und Mörder hinein zu versetzen, um Verbrechen aufklären zu können. Dementsprechend mischt sie sich auch immer wieder in aktuelle Kriminalfälle ein und bringt ihren Vorgesetzten Dr. Garret Macy mit ihren oft unorthodoxen Methoden gegen sich auf.
